Archive on Tape

Introduction

The Tape Archive feature allows users to archive data packages from the Yoda Vault onto a separate Tape storage. This is particularly useful for very large datasets that you want to archive for the long term.

What is Tape Archive recommended for?

The Tape Archive is aimed at storing large volumes of data (> 1GB) that are not and will not be actively in use in the near future (it is not a backup system). As such, it is not meant for datasets and files the undergo regular processing or require regular access. Thanks to the use of tape technology, this solution provides affordable, safe, and secure storage of data.

Who has access to data package archived on tape?

Every member of the research workspace has access and can unarchive the data package.

How to use:

  1. Navigate to the desired data package in the Yoda Vault.
  2. Select the "Archive on tape" option from the "Actions" menu.

  1. Yoda will archive the selected data package to the Tape storage.
  2. Once an archive.tar file is added to the data package, you can download it in the usual way by clicking on the button on the right of the archive.tar file and selecting 'Download'.

After a data package has been archived on tape, the option in the Actions menu is changed from “Archive on tape” to “Unarchived from tape”. This option will copy the data package back from the tape storage to the Vault. The archive.tar will be removed after the unarchiving process has been completed.
