Open Science next step: Open Education & Open Educational Resources

Open Science & Societal Impact are two major themes at Erasmus University. The goals related to these themes cannot be achieved without Open Education. The EUR is hosting a series of events in June to share information on Open Education so that EUR staff can learn more about the movement and understand the effect of sharing and incorporating open educational resources in their courses.

Open (content in) Education Erasmus: Through Open (content in) Education Erasmus creates the best positive societal impact possible

The best positive societal impact Erasmus University creates is via our 35.000 students. Imagine the potential increase of that impact the moment Erasmus actively applies Open (content in) Education! However, Erasmus is still a little hesitant when it comes to actively applying Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP). How can Erasmus Library facilitate a change to Open (content in) Education?

During today’s meeting Wilma van Wezenbeek (Npuls | Open Educational Resources) will address why Open (content in) Education is so valuable and how Npuls empowers Higher Education within the Netherlands. Lucinda Jones (Director Erasmus Library) shares the Library’s vision on OER/OEP and how it ties into the EUR-strategy for the upcoming years. Brenda Lems (UKB) workgroup Open Online Education) sheds light on how close collaboration between libraries and communities within Higher Education ensures a healthy eco-system.

Who owns or can use educational material? Intellectual Property Rights and Open Education

Erasmus University Rotterdam - Alexander Santos Lima

With their expertise University lecturers create enormous amounts of important educational materials. But do you as lecturer also own the intellectual property on the materials or do these rights lie with the university? What are the relevant intellectual property rights and what are the do’s and don’ts if you decide to open up your educational materials? And can you still sell educational books (and earn money from it) if you open up?

In this workshop Professor Tobias Cohen Jehoram (professor of Intellectual Property Law) of Erasmus School of Law will discuss the balance between protecting the rights of creators of educational resources on the one hand and promoting open education (and impact) through, for example, open licenses on the other.

When? Wednesday June 12, 13:00 – 14:30 hrs (doors open at 12:45 uur)
Waar? CLI, Polak Building (ground floor), campus Woudestein
