Visiting Fellowship Program

Erasmus Center of Law and Digitalization

The Erasmus Center of Law and Digitalization (ECLD), with the support of the Sectorplan SSH-Breed on Digitalization, welcomes researchers to visit and engage with our dynamic research environment. We highly encourage researchers with an interest in law and digitalization to share their expertise and contribute to our ongoing research initiatives.

Societal issues are changing fundamentally at an unprecedented pace due to digitalization in- and outside traditional organizations. By combining expertise from a wide range of disciplines, the Dutch Sector plan SSH-Breed ‘The Influence of Digitalization on Work, Prosperity and Entrepreneurship’ aims to develop a better understanding of the opportunities associated with digitalization for individual workers, their organizations and society. To address the topic comprehensively, expertise from all social sciences and humanities is requested The Erasmus Center of Law and Digitalization plays a decisive role in the scholarly exploration of these issues thanks to its team of legal scholars with a wide array of research interests and expertise.

The visiting fellowship program intends to strengthen all areas of law and criminology at Erasmus School of Law. Its aim is to facilitate research excellence and to further strengthen the research community at Erasmus School of Law and its focus area laid down in the SSH-Breed. With the visiting fellowship programs, the researchers will be integrated in the ongoing research of the Erasmus Center of Law and Digitalization. Moreover, researchers awarded the visiting fellowship are expected to actively participate in the ECLD’s academic community by (e.g.) presenting their research in the ECLD’s lunch seminar series, actively participating in events organized within ECLD, and co-operating with the ECLD staff to advance research under the SSH-Breed umbrella.

Successful candidates must have a strong research profile for the stage of their academic career they are in. Moreover, their work must indicate high-level academic experience and performance. Since the number of openings for visiting scholars is limited, preference is given to those candidates whose research interests align most closely with the ECLD staff.

The ECLD offers a stimulating working environment in which visiting researchers can advance their research while interacting with our vibrant legal community. Moreover, the selected researchers will get office space and can use the library facilities. There is a limited funding possibility of max. € 3,500. A contribution to the travel and accommodation costs can be made if there are no other funds available for the stay at the Center. Moreover, the quality of the research plan (see below) will also play a critical role. The support decision will be made on request and will depend on the actual need of the visiting scholar, their specific circumstances, and the contribution they could make to the Center.

The ECLD handles applications on a quarterly basis and offers the possibility of applying for research visits up to 3 months. The deadlines to apply are as follows: September 30; December 30; March 30; June 30. The decision will be made by the Management Team of the Sector Plan SSH-Breed and the Erasmus Center of Law and Digitalization. An application should consist of:

  • Research plan of max. 1,000 words (excl. references) describing the research that will be carried out during the visiting period. Important elements on which we evaluate are (i) concrete outcomes, (ii) alignments with the ECLD and SSH-Breed’s research focus and (iii) feasibility.
  • Curriculum Vitae of max. 4 pages (incl. a list of publications)
  • Funding request, if applicable
  • Desired period of visit (max. 3 months)
