Education: Active Academic Learning
Erasmus School of Law tends to educate our students to be the leaders of tomorrow based on our motto Active Academic Learning. The interactive educational model, the Erasmus Law College, aims to give each student the individual attention they need. Furthermore, the model is inspired by our scientific research and is connected with professional practice.
Research and science: law in an economic and social context
The fundamental premise underlying academic research conducted at Erasmus School of Law is that law cannot be considered in splendid isolation or as an end in itself. It is embedded in an economic and social context that shapes law. At the same time, the law itself shapes society and defines economic relationships. In line with this vision, the mission of Erasmus School of Law is to conduct innovative research on the function of law in its economic and social context. Erasmus School of Law research has a strong social and business-driven orientation. Erasmus School of Law is committed to promoting international and interdisciplinary research. It is against this background that Erasmus School of Law has formulated objectives that form the basis for our research policy:
To attract, develop, and retain talented researchers in all stages of their career;
To offer a high-quality and internationally competitive PhD programme in the Erasmus Graduate School of Law;
To conduct high-quality research that has high visibility and a solid reputation in the national and international academic community;
Achieve high output and a significant impact as regards scientific publications in national and international refereed journals, along with monographs and edited volumes with leading national and international publishers;
To achieve a high societal impact with scientific output;
To offer legal education that reflects scientific insights on the part of Erasmus School of Law researchers.
Internationalisation: essential in education and research
Globalisation and de European Union have a great impact on the international scale of the law. This impact is also relevant for the Dutch legal practice, because of growing foreign trade and border crossing crime. International orientation is integrated into our education via our English taught LL.M. programmes, minors and exchange possibilities for students. Annually, we receive well over 200 international students. Internationalisation also makes an impact on our scientific research. Increasingly, we tend to look over our own border for more impactful and innovating research which is also reflected in our research programmes. PhD students from all over the world are working on their dissertation at our Erasmus Graduate School of Law.
