What is Erasmus College?
Erasmus Colleges offers contract education that allows you to take one or more individual courses without enrolling in a bachelor’s or master’s program. You take a course through regular education and complete it with an exam alongside regular students. Upon passing, you receive a certificate.
Who can apply for Erasmus Colleges?
Erasmus Colleges is an ideal opportunity for young professionals living and working in The Netherlands to enhance and refresh their legal knowledge or to get acquainted with a master’s program at Erasmus School of Law.
Transfer courses
If you plan to enroll in an ESL master’s program in the future, you can transfer courses you completed through Erasmus Colleges into your program. There are two conditions: (1) you can transfer a maximum number of credits (EC) and (2) the validity period of the earned credits must not have expired. You can transfer a maximum of 15 EC in a master’s program. Requests for credit transfer can be directed to the examination committee once you are enrolled in the program where you want to transfer the credits. The validity period of courses can be found in the program’s Education and Examination Regulations (OER).
Course Structure
You may take a maximum of three English courses from the bachelor’s programs in law or English courses from the master’s programs. The bachelor’s program in law lasts three years. An academic year consists of eight blocks of five weeks each in 2024/2025 and in the future this will be 4 blocks of 8 week each. Courses are held on Friday afternoons from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The master’s programs last one year and consist of five blocks of seven weeks each, with courses offered during the day on various weekdays.
Literature
You must purchase the (hardcopy) literature for a course yourself. The literature list for a bachelor’s course will be provided to you after you enroll in the course via Erasmus Colleges. The literature list for a master’s course can be found under the course code.
Exams and Resits
At the end of each block, a course is examined. For some courses, there may be partial exams during the block. In the summer, you have the opportunity to retake exams. Generally, you have one opportunity for a retake per course in Erasmus Colleges. You do not need to register for exams for the Friday afternoon courses (but you do for resits). You can register for master’s courses via Osiris.
Certificate
If you pass a course, we will send you a certificate signed by the chair of the examination committee by mail. You do not need to request a certificate yourself.
Course Offerings
You can find the English course offerings for the bachelor’s programs here. The course offerings for the master’s programs can be found here. You can register using the form on this page (see under registration).

Registration
You can register for a course of Erasmus Colleges 2024-2025 using the registration form below. In the form, indicate which (academic) education you have completed and, if applicable, which legal knowledge you have obtained through education and/or work experience. Please enclose a certified copy of your bachelor’s degree and a proof of your English Language Proficiency if you don’t have a first or second degree with the English language as a medium of instruction. If you have previously been enrolled in any education at Erasmus University Rotterdam, you should indicate this on the registration form by filling in your examination/student number. After receiving your application, it will be determined based on your education and work experience whether you meet the admission criteria. For master courses, it may also happen that due to the participation of elective students, the maximum number of participants has been reached and therefore there is no place for a student from outside the regular programs. You will receive further information about admission to the course by email within ten days. There is no appeal against a negative decision.
Registration Deadline
You can register up to three weeks before the start of a course using the registration form on this webpage. It is advisable to register early and ensure timely payment. Participation in the lectures and exams is only possible if you are enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Payment Method
Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email confirmation with a request to pay the due tuition amount via the included iDEAL payment link. You can only pay through this link and not based on an invoice. Once the amount is received, you will be registered for the course. You will use a digital student ID for this.
