The Dutch port monitor assesses the economic impact of Dutch seaports, by means of the employment and the added value. These indicators of economic impact are analysed both on a direct level as well as on an indirect level. In general the direct employment in Dutch seaports has increased; about 2,4% in 2017 compared to 2016. In total 184.248 people are directly employed in Dutch seaports. These people generate about €27,9 billion direct added value. In total, so direct and indirect combined, there are almost 350.000 people employed in the Dutch seaport, whilst the total added value is about €42,4 billion. This is about 3,8% of total employment in the Netherlands and about 5,8% of total added value generated in the Netherlands.
