Biography

Walter Heijkamp is a junior researcher specializing in urban economics and transport economics. His academic background includes a Master’s in Finance and Investments, where he explored the stock carbon premium in his thesis, and a Master’s in Economics and Business with a specialization in Urban, Port, and Transport Economics, where his thesis analyzed the spatial mismatch theory and the role of public transportation in mitigating it.

Walter’s research interests focus on the intersection of urban development, transport systems, and sustainability. He is particularly interested in the economic and environmental impacts of transport systems and how urban areas can become more sustainable and equitable.

Currently, Walter is working on the STARGATE project, focusing on evaluating sustainable initiatives at airports and contributing to the ‘Luchtvrachtmonitor’, which assesses the impacts of Dutch cargo aviation on the economy and environment. He has also completed an employment study for Rotterdam The Hague Airport.

Walter has a foundation in finance and economics, with knowledge in areas like corporate and sustainable finance, valuation, financial modeling, and econometrics. In addition, he has a growing expertise in urban and transport economics, focusing on sustainable urban development, public transportation systems, and addressing spatial and social inequalities. He is particularly interested in how infrastructure and policy can create more sustainable cities and transportation systems.
