The University Library manages the History Didactics Collection (HDC), a unique collection dedicated to history education in the Netherlands and Europe, with a smaller number of educational materials (textbooks, workbooks and teacher manuals) stemming from the rest of the world. The emphasis is on secondary education.
The collection of more than 6,000 titles contains textbooks, workbooks and teaching resources for use in the classroom, as well as didactical literature pertaining to history education.
Government publications are also available, including learning plans and Dutch high school exams. National and international professional journals, historical fiction and a collection of map materials form interesting additions.
The collection has been built up since 2007 in close collaboration with the ESHCC's Centre for Historical Culture. The collection is formed mostly by donations from private individuals – mostly textbook authors – from publishers, and from organisations such as Euroclio, ICLON and CITO.
HDC materials are not available for loan, but can be viewed in the library reading rooms. Use the advanced search screen in sEURch to search for relevant titles in the collection. The Search Guide tells you how to do this.
For more information about the collection, please contact P (Pieter) van Leeuwen, Faculty Liaison for the ESHCC.
