Erasmus School of Law is celebrating its 60th anniversary this academic year with the theme 60 jaar GROOS. To mark this milestone, we have various activities planned in which you can participate. In this article we will provide an overview of activities organised by our School in the upcoming period. Take note of the dates and plans, and join us during our anniversary events.
Science Week (18 to 21 March 2024)
This week consists of various activities for diverse target groups. This week aims to make the university and science visible in an accessible way and thus stimulate the connection between science and society. We provide the target groups with knowledge about legal science and engage them in discussions about current societal developments. Each day offers an opportunity to come together over snacks and drinks!
PhD in the picture
On Monday, 18 March, Harriët Schelhaas, Dean of Erasmus School of Law, will open the exhibition where various PhD candidates will present their research. Following this, there will be a reception. The PhD posters will be on display throughout the week in the Sanders Hall, so come by and delve into the world of our PhDs. You are welcome to attend the exhibition opening, which starts at 16.30 hrs.
Welcoming high school students to our campus
Additionally, on Monday, 18 March, we will welcome high school students four times throughout the day. We will introduce them to the world of cybersecurity and give them a glimpse of our beautiful campus and School.
Conversation with Rotterdam citizens
On Tuesday, 19 March, we will discuss surveillance, online safety, and drug crime in our city with Rotterdam citizens. During this meeting, we focus on bridging the gap between science and society and strive to understand the needs of Rotterdam citizens better.
The future of businesses
On Wednesday, 20 March, we welcome businesses to engage in various substantive sessions discussing the changing job market and the role of sustainability and cybersecurity in business operations. You can now sign up for this event!
Roundtable discussion on major societal transitions within public organisations
On Thursday, 21 March, we are organising an exclusive roundtable discussion with participants from various public organisations. Together with Erasmus School of Law researchers, we will explore the knowledge and skills needed for public organisations to manage major societal transitions effectively. Alumni anniversary event (11 April 2024)
With the theme of (in)equality, we address a topic that aligns well with the premise of Erasmus School of Law, which emphasises that law is not isolated but embedded in societal themes. Besides Sander Schimmelpenninck, our colleagues Sigrid Hemels and Maarten Verbrugh will also share their expertise and engage in discussions with our alumni. You are welcome to attend this event. Anniversary Party! (23 May 2024)
You have probably seen some teasers already, and hopefully, this date has been on your calendar for a while because, on 23 May, we are celebrating the anniversary with a fantastic Anniversary Party! The party is not just about our anniversary celebration; we will also address an important societal theme which we want to contribute with your help.
Packing birthday boxes (week 21)
In the Netherlands, some children cannot celebrate birthdays because there is not enough money at home. Stichting Jarige Job helps these children by providing a birthday box worth €35. It contains everything needed for an actual birthday, at home and school! Every year, over 100,000 children celebrate their birthdays with the help of Jarige Job! We at Erasmus School of Law want to help, too! We are celebrating our anniversary this year, and we want children to be able to celebrate their birthdays.

Student congress (19 June 2024)
On 19 June, there will be a student congress on campus. This congress will be jointly organised with our affiliated student associations around the theme 'Drugs in the Port'. More information will follow.
