"Motorists are less important for the turnover of stores than retailers think." This is what Giuliano Mingardo said during a lecture for the NRW (Dutch Shopping Center Council).
In his lecture for NRW, Mingardo makes it clear that customers who come with other means of transport (public transport, bicycle or walking) are also very important for the turnover of shops. Mingardo: “Research has shown that more than 200 factors influence the attractiveness of a city center. So the focus on parking alone is too limited. There are many other factors that play a role in making urban shopping areas more attractive.”
Giuliano Mingardo gave this lecture during Provada 2019. He did this at the invitation of the NRW. The NRW brings together experts, stakeholders and innovators within the shopping environment. By sharing knowledge, NRW helps parties to deepen their knowledge development on all facets of maintaining an attractive and future-proof shopping environment.
Mingardo is a senior researcher at the Erasmus Center for Urban, Port and Transport Economics (Erasmus UPT). He specializes in parking policy and mobility management and regularly advises (local) governments and companies on these issues.
