Last week, the IAME 2021 Conference took place in Rotterdam. The 25th, 26th, and 27th of November were filled with interesting presentations, interactions, and events. In this recap, we look back at a successful conference.
Friday
The kickoff of the IAME 2021 Conference was on Thursday the 25th of November. For a summary of this first day, click here.
The following day started with parallel sessions. These sessions discussed a variety of topics concerning transitions that need to happen within the maritime sector, such as digitalization and forms of sustainability. Consequentially, lively discussions occurred. After lunch, it was time for science-industry interactions. One of the sessions discussed the trends and developments in autonomous shipping. At the event fair, the delegates had the chance to learn even more about innovations from companies, especially those innovations that are developed in the port of Rotterdam.
One of the delegates from Bangladesh enjoyed the conference very much, he said: "There are a lot of technological things I can learn. Now, I understand the progress in technology in the shipping and maritime industries a lot better. The maritime industry keeps on growing and Rotterdam is a very good place to learn and study it all."
The day ended with a diner in de Stadshavenbrouwerij, which is a brewery, bar, and restaurant all in one. It can be found in an old warehouse in the former Rotterdam Fruit Port. We can't think of a place better suited for the IAME delegates!
Saturday
The last day of the conference commenced similarly with parallel sessions. After a morning filled with thought-provoking sessions and discussions, the closing ceremony began. As is an IAME tradition, three awards were granted to the best papers. The MEL Palgrave Best Paper award went to Coen van Battum, the KLU Young Researcher award went to Lucie Letrouit, and the MPM Best Paper award was received by Michael Prehn and Frederico Jensen. Lastly, the conference came officially to an end with the port excursion. The delegates got the see the full evolution the port of Rotterdam went through.
The theme of the IAME 2021 Conference was Accelerating Transitions. Certainly, this conference packed with presentations and information has achieved to accelerate some transitions. We look forward to the next edition of the IAME Conference in South-Korea!
