From 12 to 13 September 2024, the Annual Conference of the Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Association and of the Teaching Business and Human Rights forum took place at Wageningen University.

During this conference, Martijn Scheltema, Professor of private law at Erasmus School of Law, together with Claire Bright, Associate Professor at NOVA School of Law, and Daniel Schönfelder, President Battery Materials & Catalysts at BASF, presented the European Model Clauses (EMCs) for upholding human rights and environmental standards in global supply chains, which they developed together with the rest of the European Working Group.

The EMCs are a set of model clauses that aim to support effective human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD). They are designed to be in alignment with the requirements of the new EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which entered into force in July of 2024. The EMCs are publicly available, and people are encouraged to participate in the consultation process. The consultation period closes on 2 December 2024.
