On 12 June 2019, Prof. Fabian Amtenbrink, vice dean of ESL, signed MOU with KoGuan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Law School of Shanghai Maritime University in China.
The event was witnessed by the President of EUR, Kristel Baele, and Mr Ahmed Aboutaleb, the Mayor of Rotterdam.
On the same day, the Asia-Pacific and Europe Law Institutes Alliance (APELIA) was established; ESL is one of the founding members. APELIA will provide a platform for close collaboration of 18 law schools in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. After the founding ceremony, Prof. Fabian Amtenbrink was invited to give a keynote speech titled ‘Reflections on EU Legal Complications in Advancing EU-China Trade and Investment Relations’.
In the afternoon’s conference on the settlement of international commercial and investment dispute, Prof. Yuwen Li and Prof. Martijn Scheltema presented EU perspectives on reforming investor-state dispute settlement.
