On 12 June 2019, an international conference titled ‘International Commercial and Investment Disputes Settlement: Mediation, Arbitration and Litigation’ co-organized by Erasmus University Rotterdam Erasmus School of Law and Shanghai Jiaotong University Koguan Law School was successfully held at Shanghai Jiaotong University, China.
From Erasmus School of Law, Prof. Fabian Amtenbrink attended the conference and signed MOUs with Shanghai Jiaotong University KoGuan Law School, and Law School of Shanghai Maritime University, China. During the conference, he gave a keynote speech titled ‘Reflections on EU Legal Complications in Advancing EU-China Trade and Investment Relations’. Prof. Yuwen Li and Prof. Martijn Scheltema also attended the conference and gave their speeches on the EU’s perspectives on reforming investor-state dispute settlement.
The conference also witnessed the launching ceremony of the Asia-Pacific and Europe Law Institutes Alliance (APELIA). Initiated by ESL and Shanghai Jiaotong University Koguan Law School, APELIA is a platform that establishes and strengthens close collaboration on legal research, teaching and training, and international people exchange, among 18 most prestigious law schools and research institutes in Asia-Pacific and Europe. Professor Yuwen Li and Professor Ji Weidong, President of Shanghai Jiaotong University China Institute for Socio-Legal Studies, hosted the first executive meeting of APELIA on 13 June 2019, and have been serving as the co-chairs of APELIA.
