Ilona van den Eijnde is the winner of the Stevens Award 2022

On Friday, 3 February, during a gathering at the Louwman Museum in The Hague, the professional jury named Ilona van den Eijnde, researcher at Erasmus School of Law, the winner of the Stevens Award 2022. It is the eighth time the Stevens Award has been handed out. After Loes van Hulten, Madeleine Merkx, and Martijn Schippers, Van den Eijnde is the fourth researcher connected to Erasmus University Rotterdam to win the award.

The jury is full of praise for Van den Eijnde’s work. It particularly praised her clear writing style and excellent structure. The jury also stated that the subjects Van den Eijnde writes about are of great social importance. For example, the researcher writes about environmental taxes, taxing sugar, plastic, CO2 or meat.

Van den Eijnde also recommends Dutch legislation and advises the European Commission. In addition, she can regularly be heard or seen in various TV and radio programs, such as KRO’s Pointer and NPO Radio 1 on the difficulties and possible effects of a Dutch sugar tax.

Stevens Award

Every year, Wolters Kluwer presents the Stevens Award to a young author (35 years old or younger) who has articulated complex tax matters in a simple way. In addition to a cash prize of €2,000, the winner receives a personal work of art.
