On 17 February 2025, the annual Erasmus Graduate School of Law Review Day took place – an inspiring afternoon filled with knowledge exchange and new connections. PhD candidates who started their research last year had the opportunity to present their work, while new PhD candidates were welcomed into Erasmus School of Law. As a wonderful conclusion to the day, PhD candidates who completed the EGSL training program received their certificates.

Erasmus Graduate School of Law (EGSL) director Leonie Reins opened the event with a warm welcome to all attendees. In her presentation, she highlighted several important developments. She introduced the updated Erasmus University Rotterdam Doctoral Regulations and drew attention to the EGSL Q&A on writing an article-based PhD dissertation. This is a PhD format in which candidates publish multiple academic articles instead of a single monograph.

Meet the new PhD candidates
After that, a new group of PhD candidates introduced themselves. This year, the Law, Society & Crime department welcomes Sarah Ebrahem and external PhD candidate Eva Notté. The Law & Markets department is strengthened by Luci Wang. The Law & Business department welcomes the following new PhD candidates: Egemen Dogan, Meriëlle de Zwart, Domenico Essoussi, Hechen Wang, Guinan Wang, and Yuxi Li. Additionally, the EDLE program, also within the Law & Business department, welcomes five new PhD candidates: Moritz Tilgner, Łukasz Więcławski, Sergio Dino, Arunima Ticku, and Huabing Li.

Participation and appreciation
After the plenary session, five parallel sessions followed, where PhD candidates who started last year presented their research. The presenting PhD candidates were Inge Aarts, Vladimir Belev, Merel Driessen, Charlotte Geertman, Romy Hanoeman, Julie Hoppenbrouwers, Paul Hoynck van Papendrecht, Melinee Kositwatanarerk, Yunhong Liu, Elise Maes, Iris Meijer, Eva Meijermans Spelmans, Thomas van Mourik, Simone Slootweg, Shuping Song, Jill Stigter, Stijn Voogt, Emma Weerd, Carmen ter Weijden, and Erya Zhao. After each presentation, there was time for feedback from a designated discussant as well as questions from the audience, leading to engaging discussions.
As the highlight of the day, certificates for the EGSL educational programme were handed out. The afternoon was concluded by drinks.

In addition, many thanks to Rebecca Bosch, Aylin Aydin Cakir, Maria Campo Comba, Gijs Custers, Willem-Jan Kortleve, Femke Ruitenbeek-Bart, and Enrique Santamaria Echeverria for their valuable contributions as discussants!
