On 1 November 2021, the annual combined Review Day & Kick Off meeting was held by Erasmus Graduate School of Law. During the event, the new PhD researchers of Erasmus School of Law were introduced. Furthermore, the PhD researchers who started in the fall of 2020 presented their research and received the certificate for the educational programme of Erasmus Graduate School of lLaw.
After a short welcome address by Karin van Wingerde, director of Erasmus Graduate School of Law and Professor of Criminology at Erasmus School of Law, an inspiring speech was delivered by Louis Visscher, Professor of Law and Economics. The speech was based on his own experience as both a PhD researcher and a PhD supervisor. In his speech, Visscher emphasised the importance of being part of a PhD community and actively engaging with other members of the academic community through participation in scientific meetings. To conclude the first part of the plenary session, we welcomed the new PhD researchers to Erasmus School of Law. Irem Akin, Anne Brekoo, Amber Scheepers, Tegan Snyman, Martijn Wessels and Qihan Xu briefly introduced themselves and their research topics.
The first part of the plenary session was followed by four parallel sessions in which the PhD researchers who started their research last year presented the progress they have made so far. The parallel sessions were chaired by Lieselot Bisschop, Professor of Public and Private Interests, Elena Kantorowicz-Reznichenko, Professor of Quantitative Empirical Legal Studies, Rene Repasi, Professor of Public and Private Interests and Koen Swinnen, Associate Professor of Property and Insolvency Law, and the presenting PhD researchers were: Cybele Atme, Antonia Christopoulou, Adrian Cordina, Esra Demir, Abdurrahman Erol, Candice Foot, Daniela Garcia-Caro, Daniƫl Grimmelikhuijzen, Dominic van Kleef, Vivian van der Kuil, Kostina Prifti, Eduardo Silva de Freitas, Ya Wang and Linfeng Xie. After each presentation there was time for feedback from a designated discussant as well as questions from the audience.
The Review Day & Kick Off meeting was concluded with the second part of the plenary session, in which the sector plan professors introduced themselves and informed the audience about the sector plan and the activities they will initiate in the near future.
