BiographyMaurice Jansen, MSc. is a senior researcher and business developer at Erasmus UPT. As a business expert, he specializes in Strategic Management and Environment. Maurice is a real connector and he puts the human factor and human capital at the centre of port-city development. Maurice likes to find the ‘tensions’ in port cities. Where the port and the city rub against each other there is dynamism, conflicts arise, but there is also room for creativity. ExpertiseAt Erasmus UPT Maurice concentrates on issues such as: • How can ports and port cities develop sustainably, thereby striking a balance between economic and social values. • The development of innovative education solutions which helps professionals worldwide to excel in the dynamic problems that ports and port cities face. Main research areasMaurice is an expert in the following research themes: • Port-City crossovers. • Inclusive (social and sustainable) port development. • Coordination mechanisms in port partnerships. • Serious gaming in the port, shipping and logistics. • Zero waste supply chains. Maurice considers ports and port cities as breeding grounds for talent, innovation and entrepreneurship. From this perspective, he supports policy and initiatives that lead to a breakthrough in unruly port and port city issues. Before that, he was a supply chain solutions developer at UTi Worldwide, a worldwide freight forwarding and transport consultant at KPMG Consulting. He obtained his degree in Business Administration in Strategic Management from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1997. |

Description: Research project for the Moerdijk Port Authority in which we have developed a strategic monitor to monitor the progress of the port strategy. In the context of SDGs, an extensive number of indicators have been monitored and trends and developments have been reported.

Description: The Netherlands Development Agency has commissioned Erasmus UPT to conduct a research study to contribute to the sustainable development of the Lake Tanganyika Transport Corridor (LTTC).
The study provides a regional perspective on maritime transport corridor development, using a systematic corridor assessment as well as a cost and transit time comparison with the Northern, Central and Southern Corridors. The findings from this report support the formulation of a shared vision for the government authorities in the riparian countries, based on the foundations of collaboration and a joint approach to corridor development.

Description: Maritime bachelor students from Nanyang Technological University come to the Netherlands from September to December for a study abroad program organized by Erasmus UPT. The students learn about maritime ecosystem, including maritime law, ship ownership, ship management, insurance and scenario planning.

Description: Development of an educational case for the stranded ship “Ever Given” for TKI Dinalog. The case will be developed in such a way that it can be applied from different disciplines. In addition, the objective is that students and professionals in the various disciplines gain a better understanding of each others' perspectives. We want to approach the case from the following perspectives: Nautical, economics, logistics and legal.
