Introduction

Are you researching corporate purpose and how it affects communication and reputation? Are you keen to embark on an academic career? We’re looking for an outstanding candidate to fill a post-doctoral fellowship position at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) that is jointly based in the RSM Corporate Communication Centre (CCC) and in the department of Business-Society Management.

As our postdoc fellow, you join one of Europe’s top business schools, and benefit from dedicated centres for research on corporate purpose and communication. We invite you to join us in January 2025 or at your earliest convenience.

About the department

The department of Business-Society Management at RSM was established more than 20 years ago as one of the first business and society departments in a leading European Business School. It still ranks among the best in Europe in terms of research productivity and societal impact.

Your faculty colleagues are actively involved in the academic leadership of scholarly associations (e.g., IABS, AOM, EGOS) and serve on editorial teams and boards of leading journals in the field. Our department offers its own master programme in Global Business and Sustainability, and contributes to all bachelor, master, MBA, MPhil and PhD programmes at RSM.

Faculty members also publish regularly in top-tier journals, such as the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Management, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Organization Studies.

How the CCC ties in

The Corporate Communication Centre (which co-finances your position) is linked to our department and is a centre of teaching and research on corporate communication. This includes leadership communication and purpose communication.

Job description

Your core tasks for this job include the following:

  • Conduct and publish research in the field of corporate purpose and communication.
  • Contribute to the research centre and to the department’s scholarship in this field.
  • Engage in public outreach and engagement with stakeholders.

Job requirements

As our enthusiastic colleague, you have completed – or expect to complete by autumn 2024 – a PhD from a leading business school, or a PhD in the related fields, with a focus on corporate purpose, leadership or communication.

Given that this is a research position, you are expected to demonstrate a potential for excellence in research; for example, by having papers published in or submitted to highly ranked journals.

We offer you the following:

  • Strong research environment in an enthusiastic and prolific research group.
  • Research budget that covers conference participation, data collection and research assistance.
  • Conditions of employment that comply with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).
  • Attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a generous number of vacation days.
