Learning for Equality showcases knowledge produced by students from different EUR programs. It seeks to engage EUR students themselves, their lecturers and other experts, as well as the wider Rotterdam community in a multidisciplinary discussion about local problems and efforts to fight them.
This discussion has two main objectives:
Facilitate interdisciplinary learning and community-building among EUR students and lecturers interested in engaging and contributing to issues of social inclusion in Rotterdam.
Showcase and further inspire EUR’s attention and efforts to make Rotterdam a more just city.
Learning for Equality is part of the project “Communicating and improving students’ interdisciplinary engagement with social (in)justice,” funded by Erasmus University’s Community for Learning & Innovation and sponsored by the Vital Cities and Citizens Erasmus initiative.

Learning for Equality’s handcrafted digital textile illustrations not only make it unique. As the artists explain, the illustrations meaningfully weave together the rich knowledge displayed on the site.
The artists behind these powerful illustrations are Rotterdam Arts and Sciences Lab (RASL) students Alana and Louise Wieland. Through collective brainstorming sessions and deliberations with the Learning for Equality team, the two artists were able to incapsulate the project’s messages with their artwork.
As you click through the different parts of the website, enjoy Louise and Alana’s beautiful pieces; admire their creative visualization of students’ perspectives (including their own) on learning with and from each other about the social inequalities and effort to create more space for diversity within Rotterdam.
Partner communities
The Community for Learning & Innovation is all about connecting and enabling educational innovation. Connecting one School to the others. Sharing insights, experienced pitfalls, lessons learned from one lecturer with as many other lecturers as possible. Involving students and supporting them to realise their own improvements of our education. Creating a network of EUR students and EUR staff, both academic and supporting, who are eager to take an extra step to improve and renew our education.
How can a city give space to diversity and make citizens feel like they belong? How do residents deal with changes within their environment? What role does smart technology play in the governance of a city? Additionally, what is needed for a city to be sustainable and just in the future? These questions are key in the Erasmus Initiative ‘Vital Cities and Citizens.’
