Martine van Selm reappointed as Dean of Erasmus School of History Culture & Communication

The Executive Board (CvB) of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) has reappointed Professor Martine van Selm as Dean of Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC). Van Selm's second term will run from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028. The reappointment was made after the Faculty Council was heard.

The Executive Board is pleased that Martine van Selm wishes to serve another term as Dean and looks forward to continuing the pleasant collaboration. 'Over the past years, Martine has shaped and further developed the ambitions and strategy of ESHCC in recent years. In addition to excellent research and education, we are increasingly working towards creating a positive societal impact. With her accessible, people-oriented approach, we will enter the new strategic period of EUR together', says Annelien Bredenoord, Rector Magnificus.

Martine van Selm about her reappointment:
'I would like to thank colleagues and students of our faculty and the Executive Board for the trust they have placed in me. ESHCC is a great place where arts and culture researchers, media and communication researchers and historians work together on interesting projects. Together, we are successful in organizing and putting our societal relevant education and research on the map- within the EUR, in the Netherlands and beyond. I look forward to continuing to work on the tasks and challenges of the faculty and the university over the next four years.'

About Martine van Selm  

Van Selm is Professor of Communication Science, in particular Communication in Organization. In 1998, she obtained her PhD from Radboud University, (Department of Psychogerontology) on the subject of meaninglessness in the second half of life. She has since combined her gerontological expertise on ageing with her communication science background. From 1998 to 2010, she worked as an Assistant Professor and an Associate Professor at the departments of Communication Science and Social Science Research Methods at Radboud University in Nijmegen. Before joining EUR, she worked from 2010 to 2020 as a Professor at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) and as Director of the College of Communication at the University of Amsterdam.
