University Library closed during the summer

The University Library (UL) will have the carpet replaced in the entire building and extra study spaces will be built during the summer. The building will be closed from July 13 to August 18. The Library will reopen its doors on August 19.

The UL wants to ensure the impact to students, staff and visitors will be minimal. Please keep reading to find out the services that will be on offer. 

During the period the University Library building will be closed, partial services will be available on the 4th floor of the Polak Building. The opening times will be Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 15.00.

These study spaces do not need to be reserved. Opening times:

A large part of the collection is in the closed stacks. You can borrow these books during the closure of the University Library building as usual. You will recognise these books in sEURch by the notice Closed Stacks (for loan) under Available.

You will be able to request your book online via sEURch and collect it from the temporary service desk on the 4th floor of the Polak Building from Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 15.00.  

Please note that books and journals normally located in the library study areas will not be available during the period the University Library building will be closed. For these books and journals, sEURch states: Not available. This concerns:

  • course material (East 0);
  • printed general periodicals from the current year (West 0);
  • printed subject-specific periodicals from the current year (East +1);
  • Research collection: publications on research management & academic skills (East 0);
  • Migration collection: publications on migration & immigrant integration (East 0);
  • study area collection (East 0 and +1).

A curated selection of books from the open collection of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet will be found next to the service desk. There you will also find the acquisitions table with the newest additions to the collection, and a selection of magazines. 

You can view these books and magazines during the standard opening hours of the Polak Building from Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 23.00, and Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 to 21.00. The books can also be borrowed. This is possible from Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 15.00. The magazines cannot be borrowed.

The remaining books and magazines from the open collection of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet will not be available during the period the University Library building will be closed. For these books and journals, sEURch states: Not available.

During the period the University Library building will be closed, the following delivery time applies: 

Books requested before 09:00 will be ready by 12:00 at the latest. You can collect your books from the temporary service desk on the 4th floor of the Polak Building from Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 15.00.  

The loan period is extended to 8 weeks if you borrow a book as of July 13. Normally, this is 4 weeks. You can return books at the temporary service desk on the 4th floor of the Polak Building from Monday to Sunday from 11.00 to 15.00.  
 
Books can also be returned in the Polak Building by depositing them in the return box near the entrance during the standard opening hours from Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 23.00, and Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 to 21.00. 

Library cards will not be produced during the closing dates of the University Library from July 13 to August 18. This service will return when the Library opens on August 19

This service is free of charge from 13 July to 7 September. Between 13 July and 18 August, you can collect your books from the temporary service desk on the 4th floor of the Polak Building, Monday to Sunday from 11:00 to 15:00. 

History Didactics Collection (HDC)
HDC will only be available for viewing at the temporary library service desk, located on the 4th floor of the Polak Building, from Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 15.00. You can submit your request via this form at the latest by 09.00 a.m. if you wish to view the material on the same day.

Jan Tinbergen Collection
The printed part of the Jan Tinbergen Collection will not be available during the period the University Library building will be closed. For these publications, sEURch states: Not available. Patient Experience Stories collection
The part of the collection that is normally located in the library study areas (open stacks) will not be available during the period the University Library building will be closed.
