The Library acquired the archive of the The Economist, an influential international weekly newspaper focusing on current affairs, international business, politics, and technology.
The archive starts with the first issue, published in 1843 as an anti import tariff newspaper circulated by a Scottish economist. The newspaper’s coverage soon expanded further into political economy and eventually began running articles on current events, finance, commerce, and British politics. In the second half of the twentieth century it became the international news medium it is today. The editorial stance of The Economist primarily revolves around classical, social, and most notably, economic liberalism.
The Economist Historical Archive can be found in the A-Z Database list, or through our Libguides. The Library also offers access to the current content and the most recent archive.
