The documentary series “Mondig Zuid” / Talk is Cheap follows 3 young people who grow up on the south side of Rotterdam. After the screening pedagogue Daphne van de Bongardt talks with film director René van Zundert, pedagogue Joyce Weeland and psychologist Reshmi Marhe from the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB).

About the documentary series:
In four short shows you get to know the following people:
Tamia is a girl with strong opinions and the ambition to become a spoken-word artist; reasons enough to be bullied: “They call me extra, unnecessary, different.”
Selena has a braced mouth, a distant sister and a father who clumsily shows his love. She prefers to do things with the whole family and just have fun. “They were all not raised here.”
Born in Curaçao and raised in the Dominican Republic, Darlin wants nothing more than to work to support his mother, who is struggling with poor health: “I want to finish my schooling and not get a criminal record.”

The three are followed in the series in their daily lives, and openly talk about their doubts, fears and dreams. The loving camera shows their vulnerability, but above all their courage and determination.

The documentary will be subtitled in English.
