Check out the new guard of word artists at Poetry International! With word artists from all over the world and events where the joy of language springs from the floor, the 52nd Poetry International Festival from 10 -12 June is a new showcase of current poetry worldwide.
Under the motto What's NEXT, the festival Friday will be entirely devoted to the new generation of word artists. Who are the poets and performers of the future, what do their poems or pieces look like and how do they organize their performances and contact with their audience? A night full of self-willed experimentation with content, form, performance, media and activism in the playground of the word.
Discover a world of poetry that experiments, confronts and inspires, with readings, theme specials, talk shows and - last but not least - the afterparty. We recommend the one-off performance by the up-and-coming Rotterdam dance collective Amenti, with poets such as Safia Elhillo, Marjolijn van Heemstra and Amara van der Elst; poetry for all the senses by Mooie Woorden, the Utrecht-based millenial collective that is making the arts sexy again; and of course the readings by Sara Uribe (Mexico), Laura Jane Lee (Hong Kong), Threa Almontaser (US/Jemen) and Takako Arai (Japan): Poetry as a probing examination of a life between two cultures, as a feminine exploration of love, and as hope in the midst of atrocities.
