An evening full of talks by America experts and journalists about the U.S. election, followed by a watch party of the results.

PART 1: The Divided States of America (21:00 – 23:00 uur).

This year’s elections in the United States will be exciting. Joe Biden seems at a loss for words during some of his public appearances and makes a very tired impression. Can Donald Trump, convicted of fraud, among other things, still become president? Are these the best candidates to lead the most powerful country in the world? What are the consequences of either Trump or Biden winning? And who will run for President if either the Republicans or the Democrats decide to withdraw their trust in these candidates? What do ‘ordinary’ Americans think about the path the country should take, and what will the outcome mean for Europe?

The run-up to the election is heady with an attempted assassination of Trump, the possibility of withdrawal of trust in Biden, conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift’s influence and plenty of memes going viral. How will America choose, and what will the result mean for domestic politics? What is the big Project 2025 from Trump’s ranks, and what will remain of democracy? Or will Biden get the chance to extend his term and bet on the Green New Deal and securing abortion rights?

We will talk about this with several experts. Including Danny Ghosen on his conversations with ordinary Americans; journalist Süeda Işık on meme culture; America expert Kirsten Verdel on the domestic politics; and prof. Michal Onderco on what the outcome of the election will mean for Europe.

More names to be announced!
