The following admission requirements apply to entering this programme:
Admission requirements
- A Bachelor/Master in Economics, Philosophy, Philosophy and Economics, Philosophy, Politics and Economics or related programmes.
 - A grade for the bachelor thesis equivalent to at least an 8.0 in the Dutch grading system.
 - An average grade in the bachelor equivalent to at least 7.5 in the Dutch grading system.
 - Proficiency in English*
 - A detailed letter of intent that: 
- Demonstrates your interest in philosophy of economics;
 - Details your background in philosophy and economics;
 - Details which courses you are especially interested in or which items on the Preparatory Reading List especially interested you;
 - Describes why you deem yourself equipped to complete the Research Master in Philosophy and Economics in two years
 
 - A writing sample of around 10-15 pages. (At least 8 pages, maximum 25 pages, excluding bibliography and appendices. This can be an essay in philosophy, economics, or a closely related subject.) The admission committee is aware that writing samples can be AI generated. Use of AI to generate a writing sample will result in rejection of your application.
 - Two letters of reference.
 
Assessment criteria The admission committee, composed of leading researchers in the philosophy of economics, assesses applications on the basis of all of the above-mentioned admission requirements.
The assessment criteria for the Research Master in Philosophy and Economics are designed and applied in order for the programme to remain a top programme in philosophy of economics, and to preserve and guarantee an excellent and inspiring study environment
*You meet this requirement if:
- you have a Dutch ‘vwo’ grade of 7 or higher in English;
 - you hold an International Baccalaureate diploma including English Standard Level (A) or English Higher Level (A or B);
 - you hold a European Baccalaureate diploma including English as 1st or 2nd language;
 - you obtained at least 2,5 years of English language secondary education in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South-Africa, The USA, the UK or Ireland.
 
Or:
- IELTS Academicl (International English language Testing System) with a minimum score of 7.0 overall. All sub scores should at least be 6.5.
 - TOEFL iBTl (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 100. All sub scores should at least be 23.
 - ITP-TOEFL (Institutional Testing Programme) offered by the Language & Training Centre at the EUR, or any other Dutch University. Minimum requirement: 627.
 - Cambridge C1 Advanced or Cambridge C2 Proficiency with a minimum score of at least 185.
 
Only one of the options above needs to be met.
