In this study you will gain essential basic insights into classic philosophical knowledge – with a focus on Enlightenment Philosophy and Contemporary Philosophy - and current philosophical discussion. You will learn to discuss timeless philosophical questions as well as topical societal problems from different philosophical perspectives and with different philosophical methodologies. You will be provided with advanced knowledge on the application of philosophical methods and theories to current issues, tailored to the four clusters of the MA “Philosophy Now”: (1) “Representation. Science, Politics, Culture”, (2) “Environment, Life, Technology”, (3) “Subject and Respons-Ability”, (4) “The Politics of Wealth. Inequality, Capitalism, Exploitation”.
The courses are combined with an academic skills training, (“The philosophical studio”), tailored to the specific requirements of philosophical research and argumentation, focusing on academic writing in philosophy, critical reflection, and the capacities to understand philosophical views from different traditions, translate them into current discussions and apply them to concrete problems, arguing from different philosophical perspectives. You will receive tailor-made individual support in your personal learning processes through one-to-one mentoring and peer mentoring.
