IDEA Center teamed up with Brave Spaces and Eurekaweek Management (EWM) to design and deliver a training for this year’s student guides at Eurekaweek - the yearly introduction week of Erasmus University Rotterdam to all new students. Eurekaweek Guides will mentor and guide new students during Eurekaweek. The training focused on crucial topics as active bystandership interventions, diversity & inclusion, and consent. Recognising other people's boundaries and understanding what makes them feel safe is the first step towards building a welcoming and safe EUR community.
More than 400 student guides were invited to think how they would respond to difficult situations that might occur during Eurekaweek. What do you do if you spot undesirable behaviour? How do you make all students feel included? Brave Spaces provided student guides with a toolbox to fall back on as well as confidence to recognise certain situations and act on them.
For new students Eurekaweek is the beginning of a very important chapter in their lives, and we want them to have a welcoming start at university - feeling seen, included and valued at our university.
We wish all guides and new students a wonderful Eurekaweek!
