Rethinking Methods in interdisciplinary teaching - an ontological approach

CLI Fellowship of Brandon Sommer

The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) gives lecturers from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) the opportunity to apply for a fellowship. With this fellowship, they research educational innovation, or carry out an educational project.
On this page you can read more about the CLI Fellowship of Brandon Sommer (EUC), in which he examines an alternative ontological based approach to methods training.

Re-thinking our approach to methods teaching is a vital problem that demands significant attention because in the real world, problems don’t neatly fit into qualitative problems and quantitative problems, in fact it is increasingly recognized that thinking of whole systems is necessary in problem solving and this does not fit our artificial division between qualitative and quantitative science. Yet, curiously, when it comes to teaching methods courses, the quantitative-qualitative divide has remained stubbornly persistent. In this project they examine an alternative ontological based approach to methods training which offers the possibility to overcome the qualitative quantitative impasse towards being able to better address complex problems.
