Nine students of Erasmus University Rotterdam started in their Eurekaweek Management (EWM) roles last November. They have the important task to set up and (re)design Eurekaweek - one of the biggest student welcoming events in the Netherlands. IDEA Center invited them to a training on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Delivered by Stichting Confro, this training has helped Eurekaweek Management learn how unconscious bias and privilege work, and how important it is to invite all voices to the decision-making table. The need to keep on asking ourselves if what we’re doing is inclusive and rechecking for biases and blind spots, were the main take-aways of the training.
Eurekaweek Management (EWM): "Our role in Eurekaweek is not only to welcome new students but to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, feels seen and valued. This training has shown us how to recognize biases and shape Eurekaweek to be welcoming for all."
Organising Eurekaweek is no small task, but it is also an exciting opportunity to create a programme that is welcoming to all students starting their study-journey at Erasmus University Rotterdam. We wish Shirley Le, Izaak Sijthoff, Robin Deitz, Mees de Raat, Khushi Batta, Emma Martens, Fleur Dubbeldam, Emy van den Bulk and Anna Valeria Pelivanidou good luck and great fun!
