Promoting a feedback culture among students

CLI Fellowship of Robbert Goverts

The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) gives lecturers from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) the opportunity to apply for a fellowship. With this fellowship, they research educational innovation, or carry out an educational project.
On this page you can read more about the CLI Fellowship of Robbert Goverts (ESSB) about promoting a feedback culture among students.

In many studies, feedback plays an important role in teaching. Increasing student numbers and an increased workload among lecturers mean that expert feedback is not always possible and that students increasingly rely on themselves and each other. This project focuses on stimulating a culture of (peer) feedback among students. Through various instructions, exercises and reflection throughout the first year of their studies, students are made aware of the function of feedback and the role they, their peers and the lecturers play in it. Educational design on paper often turns out differently in practice; the results from this project show that, besides design, you have to take into account the commitment of students, the capabilities of lecturers, and that developing a culture is mainly a long-term process.
