The Polak building is reopening on Tuesday 3 April. At the moment, we are busy preparing the building for the opening. The 600 study places and 24 classrooms will be ready to use from 8.00 a.m..
What has been happening over the past few months?
The Polak building was evacuated on Thursday 19 October 2017. After two months, in consultation with experts, the university found the most suitable solution for reinforcing the floors. In mid January, in places where the stress on the floor was too high, a start was made with anchoring and reinforcing the floors with steel strips. The work was completed at the beginning of March 2018.
Safe
The work and placement of the strips were inspected by Royal HaskoningDHV. They officially confirmed that the floors now comply with the safety requirements. The building is therefore safe to be used again. The Building and Housing Inspectorate in Rotterdam also approved the chosen solution.
Cleaning
The coming two weeks are still about recommissioning the Polak building. The building will therefore be thoroughly cleaned and all the installations (climate, central heating, cooling, lighting) will be (re)calibrated and commissioned. The coffee and snack machines and the study sections (computers and AV equipment) will be cleaned and plants replaced.
Shops on the ground floor Polak
Hairdesign by Lydia will also be moving back to her shop on the ground floor of Polak. Welcome back everyone! Randstad, Study Store and the Copyshop will be returning slightly later, on Monday 23 April 2018.
