"The Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam is pleased with the announced flexibilities for higher education. After a long period of online education, the new academic year will, if the figures allow, consist of many more physical education activities. We think this is extremely good news. We are going to do everything we can to make full use of the opportunities from 30 August next.

For example, from the start of the academic year, the 1.5-metre measure can be abandoned. This offers perspective for the provision of physical education. However, there will still be a number of restrictions. For example: when moving around, a face mask will be worn in the corridors and buildings; this does not apply when sitting in a classroom.

In the press conference, there was talk of a maximum group size. This means that only lectures attended by more than 75 people will have to be modified. That concerns about 15% of our activities. On Monday, we will discuss with the faculties how they want to adjust these activities. Especially for the larger schools, this will mean that hybrid solutions will have to be chosen.

Together, we have the responsibility to deal with these changes. We ask everyone who has not yet been vaccinated to consider this carefully. See also the information by VSNU on this subject. Be well informed about the importance of vaccinations. The higher the vaccination coverage, the more likely it is that we will be able to continue our physical education without any restrictions and that our other activities will continue as usual. And we advise students and staff to test themselves in case of complaints at a Municipal Health Service (GGD) test location and twice a week using a home test. At www.zelftestonderwijs.nl you can request a self-test. Of course, the basic hygiene rules continue to apply. We can all contribute to the possibilities for physical education."
