Erasmus School of Law renews collaboration with the Public Prosecution Service, the Rotterdam Bar and the Rotterdam District Court

With the theme 'Metropolitan dynamics', Erasmus School of Law held a conference at the end of November, which served as the starting point of a renewed collaboration with the Public Prosecution Service, the Rotterdam Bar and the Rotterdam District Court.

The conference focused on the city's challenges, which were highlighted from different perspectives. On behalf of Erasmus School of Law, Professors Karin van Wingerde and Ruben Houweling made a substantive contribution to the programme, which further revolved around powerful thoughts, gaining ideas and sharing knowledge.

After opening words by Hugo Hillenaar, Chief Prosecutor of the Public Prosecution Office Rotterdam, and Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, they were followed by opening remarks of Peter Hanenberg of the Rotterdam Bar Association. Panel sessions then took place led by the President of the Rotterdam District Court, in which experts highlighted the themes 'Rotterdam Murder Capital', 'Football Hooliganism' and 'Debt Problems'. During the various panel sessions, the experts paid particular attention to youth and hopeful initiatives to combat stigmatisation and tackle a problem at its core. In order to be able to achieve this, the importance of scientific research for all three themes was endorsed. The closing words were for Harriët Schelhaas, Dean of Erasmus School of Law.
