The Minister of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) has appointed Prof Elmer Sterken as a member of the Supervisory Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). Sterken, Professor of Monetary Economics at the University of Groningen, has been appointed with the effective date of 1 August 2023 until 31 July 2027.
Prof. Elmer Sterken: "Erasmus University Rotterdam is an internationally highly renowned institution and it is a great honour and pleasure to serve as a member of the Supervisory Board for the coming period. As an economist, the EUR goals of increasing positive social impact and sustainability appeal greatly. Furthermore, with my background in university management, I hope to contribute to the continuous improvement of academic quality in a broader sense."
About the Supervisory Board
The Supervisory Board is responsible for supervising the administration and management of Erasmus University Rotterdam as a whole. It ensures that the Executive Board complies with legislation, rules and regulations and directives relating to the EUR. The Supervisory Board advises the Executive Board and is responsible for approving a number of specific decisions taken by the Executive Board.
The members of the Supervisory Board are appointed by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science for a period of four years and the Board is accountable to the Minister. One of the members of the Supervisory Board in particular should enjoy the confidence of the University Council. The other members of The Supervisory Board are Prof. Jaap Winter (Chairman), Drs. Laura van Geest, Prof. Ellen Giebels and Dr. Rahul Vas-Bhat.
