Elbert Dijkgraaf, Professor of Empirical Economics of the public sector at Erasmus School of Economics, starts a small-scale project to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.
Dijkgraaf, who recently was granted a fellowship by the Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) to conduct this research, focuses on enhancing the master specialisation Economics of Sustainability by implementing AI-driven tools. The aim is to improve case-based learning.
The research will assess how AI can streamline case-solving approaches, provide better guidance for students, and reduce the workload for educators without compromising academic standards. The initiative includes a pilot phase using a ChatGPT-based assistant to support coaching and assessment in climate change case studies.
At Erasmus School of Economics, Elbert Dijkgraaf coordinates the master specialisation Economics of Sustainability. In this programme, students get a broad understanding of the complexity of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as how current and new economic policies support achieving these goals.
