Dr. Mijke Slot recently received a research grant financed by de Stimuleringsfonds voor de Journalistiek and ERMeCC for her project: 'Do we have a click? Researching the digital relationship between journalists and their audiences'. Team members of the project include Temi de Groen and Sam Vitikainen.
About the project:
The current relationship between journalists and their audiences can be increasingly characterized as digitized and quantified. Technology has two faces here. On the one hand, it enables innovation by which journalists can serve their audiences better, and news consumers can have easier access to information. At the same time, technology has a darker side that should be analyzed more critically. Web metrics play an increasingly important role in the choices that journalists make in their news production process, and algorithms influence news users in their news selection process. In the two-year research project Do we have a click? Dr. Mijke Slot will explore the relationship between Dutch journalists and their audiences, and the role that technology plays in it. Every month, she will share her progress in the research and results in a research podcast, translating academic research into practical recommendations for the field of journalism.
