This afternoon, the Schoof cabinet presented the Government Programme, the elaboration of the Outline Agreement in which a cut of more than 1 billion euros in higher education is described.

Annelien Bredenoord, Chair of the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam, commented on the Schoof government's programme: 'The cuts in higher education are penny wise, pound foolish. The government is directly affecting an entire generation of young scientists in their development, all those talented students are the victims of this and our hard-working employees are seeing their workload increase again. The sector plans may have been saved, but with a billion euros in cuts, this will certainly cost permanent jobs in higher education. Moreover, they are single-handedly destroying the top position that the Netherlands has as a knowledge economy.'
