In the week of the 26 September 2023, over 6500 professionals from educational institutes from around the globe will be visiting Rotterdam to participate in the annual conference from the European Association for International Education (EAIE). The conference is the largest and most comprehensive international higher education event of its kind in Europe and is hosted in a different European city each year.

Strenghtening partnerships and sharing best practices

The last time the annual EAIE conference took place in the Netherlands was in Maastricht, in 1999. In the meantime, the annual conference has evolved in many ways, and has now reached its 33rd edition, which is expected to be one of the largest editions in its history. The conference attracts international officers, policy advisors, alumni officers as well as teaching staff, researchers and leadership from universities from all continents. Participants use the opportunity to foster and strengthen their international partnerships, to learn and get inspired by the latest trends in international education, and to share best practices on topics ranging from internationalisation at home to virtual exchange, research collaboration, student employability and ChatGPT.

From online learning to sustainability and inclusion

Eight of our colleagues have been selected to share their knowledge on societal impact, online learning, evidence-based internationalization, and inclusion. Special attention is given to sustainable internationalisation: participants in the conference are called upon to travel green by joining the Travel with CANIE initiative, resulting in a substantial decrease of the carbon footprint of the conference, and a range of workshops and sessions and posters focus on this topic. Students are also asked to present sustainability initiatives: Liva Liepa of The Positive Change Initiative will be present on behalf of Erasmus University to present our SDG Ambassadors Programme.

Erasmus University Rotterdam events - International Partner Day

Prior to the conference, on Monday 25th of September, Erasmus University will host an International Partner Day for 120 representatives from our international partners, to celebrate our ongoing and future collaborations. During the Experience Erasmus! festival, our partner institutions will discover our campus, meet with international officers from our Schools, join a “Feeling Orange” workshop and get a glimpse of student life at our campus. During the Taste of Rotterdam lunch, our guest will sample food offered by Erasmus Alumni caterers, while the afternoon programme focuses on thematic sessions on societal impact, careers & employability, and wellbeing. Rotterdam School of Management hosts a parallel programme for their partners in the afternoon.
