Erasmus University Rotterdam offers Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) with a focus on sustainability and the climate crisis. These include 'Earth Economics', 'Principles of Sustainable Finance', and 'Planning for Climate Change in African Cities'. Anyone can register for these academic courses free of charge via Coursera. What do you learn in these MOOCs?

Earth Economics

The climate crisis calls for international rather than national solutions. The International Institute of Social Studies' online course 'Earth Economics' deals with global policy and makes the link between sustainability and economics. In addition, this MOOC pays a lot of attention to pressing problems in global governance, including sustainability. Afterwards, you can call yourself a real 'Earth-Economist'.

Principles of Sustainable Finance

Using finance to tackle the climate crisis is not an obvious thought for many people. But finance can actually be used to achieve social goals. And thus also to move the global economy off its current path and towards a world that is sustainable for all. The course 'Principles of Sustainable Finance' at the Rotterdam School of Management looks at how sustainability can be achieved in the financial sector. For example, how do you design business models with sustainability in mind?

Planning for Climate Change in African Cities

Climate change poses a long-term threat to economic growth and prosperity in many countries, including Africa. The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies' course 'Planning for Climate Change in African Cities' will study the exposure and sensitivity of African cities to climate change, and how cities can manage these impacts during this growing uncertainty.
