On Friday 14 October, nearly 100 alumni of the post-master's programme Data Science & Business Analytics (DSBA) and alumni of the executive programmes gathered on Woudestein campus. Besides the opportunity to see and speak to each other again, those present enjoyed some inspiring lectures.
Relationship between algorithms and people
One of the teachers of the programme is Philip Hans Franses, Professor of Applied Econometrics at Erasmus School of Economics. In his lecture, he gave an overview of the (sometimes difficult, but always interesting) relationship between algorithms and people. Afterwards, two alumni were given the floor to tell how they have fared after successfully completing the sometimes quite challenging, but very meaningful and instructive course. For example, Jadé Dieteren talked about her experience as a data scientist at Amazon and Pieter Vreeburg talked about his work at the DCMR Rijnmond.
Data Science & Business Analytics
The DSBA programme has been offered for many years by Erasmus Quantitative Intelligence (EQI), part of Erasmus University Rotterdam and affiliated with the Econometric Institute of Erasmus School of Economics. The knowledge that EQI offers is based on more than 60 years of scientific research in the field of econometrics, data science and business analytics.
The post-master's programme is the leading programme for data scientists who want to be among the top in their field. Participants in this programme are trained in one year to become an expert in the field of deploying advanced (data) analysis methods, extracting insights from big data, and applying artificial intelligence for business and organisational issues. Hands-on working with state-of-the-art software and connecting to one's own field of work is central to the course.
Alumni of this programme are able to identify business opportunities for the deployment of data science, independently carry out a data science project and ensure the adoption of data science solutions. Kristiaan Glorie, Director of Erasmus Quantitative Intelligence, looks back on this first alumni meeting with great pleasure. Just before drinks he announced that he would like to organise a meeting like this much more frequently.
