From 2020 on, all articles by EU scientists will be published in open access. The European ministers of Research and Innovation came to this decision. According to their opinion, scientific knowledge cannot longer be hidden behind a so called ‘paywall’.
Science Magazine refers to this as ‘a dramatic statement’. As president of the European Union, Holland is making a case for open access and open science. The League of European Research Universities (LERU) addresses 15 aspects in a declaration of policy, which were approved by the ministers of Research and Innovation. In an article of Sciene Guide, LERU-secretary-general Kurt Deketelaere expressed his gratitude for the work of Holland to organize a succesfull gathering.
