Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:

Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are a heterogeneous type of cancer whose prevalence has substantially increased in recent decades. Treatment of patients with NET can be complex as the clinical behavior of these tumors may vary greatly. NET patients can present with various syndromes of hormonal hypersecretion or with rare primary tumor sites or metastases. This thesis aimed to improve the understanding of the pathophysiology of carcinoid syndrome (CS), evaluate diagnostic and treatment options for CS patients, and analyze the disease-specific mortality of CS patients. Additionally, this work aimed to provide clinical guidance to physicians treating patients with ovarian localizations of NET. We achieved this through clinical and molecular phenotyping of the large number of NET patients who visit our ENETS Center of Excellence annually.
