prof. dr. Lidia Arends

Methods and Techniques of Social Science Research; meta-analysis and systematic reviews; educational Research; biostatistics

Lidia Arends is professor of Social Science Research Methods and Techniques, she is a member of the Educational Sciences Programme Committee and she is testing expert of the Examination Board (ESSB).

Lidia holds a PhD in Multivariate Meta-analysis. Meanwhile, she is also often involved in research on Education (reading, diversity, disability, etc). Lidia also works as a Biostatistician at the Erasmus Medical Centre.

dr. Bruno Bocanegra

Experimental design in behavioral research; high-level cognition; psychological theory and methods; non-linear (process) models

Bruno Bocanegra's recent research focuses on the relationship between theory, method and models in (experimental) research, mainly in higher cognition.

Dr. Oliver Lindemann

Cognitive representation of numbers and mathematical concepts in children and adults; bayesian statistics; open science; development of research software

Oliver Lindemann is Associate Professor of Cognitive Psychology and is mainly involved in experimental research on the influence of mathematics anxiety on arithmetic ability and the embodiment of mathematical concepts. He is co-founder of the Open Science Community Rotterdam and member of the testing committee of ESSB.

Dr. Marleen de Moor

Methods and statistics, longitudinal data analysis; behavioural genetics, family pedagogy

Marleen de Moor obtained her doctorate in behavioural genetics with new methods for investigating causality in family designs. She is currently investigating how biological factors (such as genes and hormones) are related to upbringing and education, applying advanced longitudinal data analysis techniques.

dr. Marike Polak

Methods and Techniques of Social Science Research; psychometrics (questionnaire development and validation); evidence-based (mental) health care: research into the effectiveness/mechanisms of interventions in the (mental) health care sector.

Marike Polak is associate professor M&T of social science research and chairperson of the faculty Examination Board ESSB. Marike holds a PhD in scaling techniques for bipolar scales/item analysis for single-peaked items (psychometrics) and is active as a researcher in the field of (mental) health care. She is active as a researcher in the field of (mental) health care where, for example, she conducts research into interventions and treatments and contributes to the development of measuring instruments.

Dr. Peter Verkoeijen

Applied cognitive psychology; educational psychology

Peter Verkoeijen obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on fundamental cognitive psychological research into the causal mechanisms behind the spacing effect, a well-known phenomenon from memory psychology. Since then, he has mainly been involved in applied cognitive and educational psychology research into effective cognitive strategies and how to use them in such a way as to enhance learning and how these should be embedded in instruction and practice in such a way as to enhance the (self-regulated) learning of students in higher education.

Kristel de Groot, MSc.

Biological psychology; educational psychology

Kristel de Groot's expertise is biological psychology (primarily cognitive neuroscience and EEG). Within the M&T group, she is currently doing longitudinal research on student mental health and studying with a disability. She often (and gladly!) talks about this with others (student advisors, student counsellors, teachers, policy officers, ...).

Gökhan Korkmaz, MSc

Linguistics research; brain & Cognition research (meta-analysis)

Gökhan Korkmaz has a master's degree in Brain & Cognition and now works as a science teacher within M&T. Besides his job as a WD, he does research on the Animacy and Survival Memory effect.

Pieter van Lamoen, MSc.

Diversity in higher education; educational success; social networks; longitudinal data analysis  

Pieter van Lamoen is a PhD student doing research on diversity in the transition to higher education, with a focus on first generation students and students with a migration background. In this project, he researches among others how social networks of students develop and how this is related to different forms of study success.

Marloes Onrust, MSc.

Statistical advice for various research projects

Marloes Onrust holds a master's degree in Psychology Methods and Statistics and is an expert in the field of multilevel modelling. As a scientific tutor, Marloes is involved in the development and coordination of statistics courses in our programmes.

Tessa Visser, MSc

(In)equality in the transition from primary to secondary education

Tessa Visser has a master's degree in clinical psychology and clinical child and adolescent psychology. For her PhD, she is doing research on (in)equality in the transition from primary to secondary education, in which she applies both quantitative and qualitative methods.
