Podcast launch: Political Compositions, with Gijs van Oenen and Jamie van der Klaauw

In the newly launched podcast Political Compositions, political philosophers Gijs van Oenen and Jamie van der Klaauw explore the most influential ideas from the past 250 years of political, social, and cultural philosophy – blending sharp-edged contemporary thought with self-performed musical pieces.

Contemporary thought and classical pieces

Join us in confronting the foremost philosophers, movements, and ideas, from past to present, that shape political philosophy today.

Every podcast episode crafts a political composition of its own. Political Compositions is not a lecture series or a Platonic dialogue. Rather, think of each episode as a satellite orbiting the core of what we believe political theory, or political philosophy, is about. These compositions offer a range of perspectives from different altitudes on the fascinating world of politics, its theories, and how they affect our lives.

And it gets even better. As befits a podcast about compositions, we've added some of our own. It so happens that Gijs has performed some of the classical musical pieces you’ll hear throughout the episodes - so keep an ear out for those!

Episode 1: Romanticism

We are live with the first episode! How do the imagination, Tristan and Isolde, and Jean Jacques Rousseau resonate? What is the relation between the Enlightenment and the Romantics of the 19th century? And can we find truth by looking within ourselves? These elements and questions compose todays topic: Romanticism.
