Students with either a temporary or chronic functional impairment or learning disability can make use of special provisions. These aim to ensure that every student has an equal chance to achieve academic success.
“Functional impairment” is a collective term for both physical limitations (e.g. chronic diseases, visual, or hearing impairment, RSI) and psycho-mental (learning) disorders (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, AD(H)D and disorders related to the autism spectrum). These may include, but are not limited to:
- Visual, hearing or sensory/motor impairment
- Specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia)
- Autism spectrum disorder (e.g. Asperger Syndrome)
- Concentration disorders (e.g. ADD, ADHD)
- Medical conditions (e.g. epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, severe migraines)
- Mental health difficulties (e.g. depression, phobia)
- Any other diagnosed condition which has a significant effect on your ability to study

Provisions
Students with a functional impairment can make use of the following facilities, all of which will need to be granted by the examination board:
- Additional exam time
- Larger exam paper
- Use of a computer or dictionary for exams
- Using the 'TextAid' reading software
- Use of special software for students with a hearing or visual impairment
- Exam at home with online proctoring (OP)
- Financial support (via student counsellor)
- Certain custom solutions in consultation with the student advisor and/or student counsellor
Please note: certain provisions may not always be suitable for a specific test format. And keep in mind that, in case of chronic disabilities, a provision awarded by ESHPM may not automatically be honored by a different degree program at a another faculty or the transition from a bachelor program to a master program.
Requesting special provisions
Students with a functional impairment can submit a request via Osiris Zaak (Osiris Case) in order to apply for exam provisions. Your request can be submitted throughout the academic year. However, keep in mind the processing of your request can take up to 4 weeks. Your medical statement and/or other official documents can be attached to your request.
Can I schedule an appointment to discuss my request?
In some cases, e.g., dyslexia, students are already familiar with what provision(s) work well for them, and an appointment with the student advisor isn’t always necessary. However, in case you would like to discuss your request, or perhaps your preferred provision isn’t listed, you are welcome to schedule an appointment with one of the student advisors to discuss your situation.
The ESHPM student advisors may also advise you to also schedule an appointment with a student counselor from Team Studying with a Functional Impairment (SMF), especially if you have a rather specific support need that affects your campus experience beyond our faculty. The student counselors from SMF can help identify what provision or form of support suits your needs best. You are welcome to schedule an appointment directly with the SMF department, via this page.
