It is advisable to arrive in Rotterdam well in time for the first lectures. Introductions such as ESN and the EUReka week are planned for mid-August and are a nice way to get settled before classes start.
Our city is our laboratory
With its huge port, famously multicultural population, and many multinational companies, Rotterdam – the Netherlands’ second biggest city – is an environment full of real-life cases, relevant data and research partners. Thanks to its international train station and local airport, Rotterdam is also an excellent base from which to explore Europe. English is an unofficial second language here and nearly everyone you meet is happy to speak English with you, even off-campus.
Our main campus is located in the east of Rotterdam, while the Erasmus Medical Centre and Erasmus University College are right in the city centre. You can count on safe and convenient metros, trams, buses, and trains to get around, but you’ll find that students most often make their way by bike.
A city to discover
Rotterdam is a young, dynamic metropolis which keeps developing rapidly. Sparkling skyscrapers, an impressive port, hip restaurants and food markets, renowned museums, special attractions and awesome festivals are the direct result of the can do mentality of the people of Rotterdam. Rotterdam is considered the most modern city of the Netherlands. Atypical in its own country, internationally renowned for its passion for innovation and its unpolished charms.
Student life
If you would like to, you could join student and study associations. Next to it being a lot of fun, the associations also help you with studying and you end up building a huge network! There's also a lot to experience on our campus: at the theatre at the Erasmus Paviljoen you will often find debates and concerts. Great relaxation next to the studying.
Sport
Rowing at Skadi, dancing at Erasmus Dance Society or playing soccer at Antibarbari: Erasmus Sports' associations make sure you'll stay in shape! In the new sportcentre on campus you can basically practice any sports you would like! Top athletes are also at the right address here. Erasmus Sports helps you with making a fitting study programme.
Eurekaweek
The Eurekaweek marks the start of your student time in Rotterdam. In four days you get to know the student life, and the university! You'll go to a party (or two) at one of the student associations, go on a City Tour and explore Rotterdam's culture. You will make most of your friends even before you start classes in September.
Living
You can find student accommodation throughout the whole city of Rotterdam. A lot of 'traditional' student accommodation is in the great neighbourhood, Kralingen, close to campus. Getting to the campus is really easy with the bike or tram. Finding housing in Rotterdam is not easy. But we will try to make the search as easy as possible for you by offering multiple tips and tricks.
Welcome to our tough, lively, diverse and ever-changing city.
