Bart is a fifth-year PhD Candidate in Operations Research at the Econometric Institute. His research interests include mathematical programming and combinatorial optimization, with applications to railway crew planning and fairness-oriented optimization. His PhD project features a close collaboration with Netherlands Railways.

Job market paper

Bart’s job market paper is titled “Efficient Branching Rules for Minimizing Range and Order-Based Objective Functions”. It presents a tailored branching rule which allows classic branch-and-price methods to be successfully applied to notoriously difficult range minimization problems. Such problems are frequently encountered in the domain of fairness-oriented optimization. A pre-print is available here.
