Interview with Ilaria

What our students say
Campus from above with Mandeville Building

My name is Ilaria and I'm a third year IBEB student, 22 years old and I come from Italy.

Why did you choose this study programme?

I chose this program as I hoped it could give me the perfect base from which I could start building up a career.

What is your favorite subject and/or favorite teacher?

My favourite subjects are Micro/Macroeconomics, International Economics and Introduction to Econometrics. It might not come as a shocker that the professors of the latter two subjects are the ones I have appreciated most throughout my years!

What is the most interesting thing you learned so far?

With a birds' eye view on my bachelor's, I think that the most fascinating thing I learnt was how to interconnect many of the individual things learnt in the courses. Though, by getting into the specifics I have loved learning about how proper economic research is made and the precision needed for research papers. The mechanics and theories behind consumer behaviour and Government decision making were also insightful and awakening.

What is your favorite study-break spot on campus?

There are really many spots where I love to take breaks- which one I choose usually depends on the weather or my schedule! For the most part, when the weather allows for it, I love hanging out at the picnic tables on Mandeville's terrace or at the steps in front of the pond. Winter usually calls for the seats in Theil right in front of the windows- so that you can always complain about the wind and rain. Best perk- I always lay my legs on the radiators!

What is your best tip for doing fun things in Rotterdam?

My best tip is to be in an association or to follow pages of the topics you love doing in your free time, there are always updates and planned events to look at! Above all, it's also all about connections- friends of friends sharing news on parties, events or experiences available that week. You can never get bored!
